Social Sharing Overview

Social Sharing v3 supports a variety of ways to share information across social networks. By adding a simple, streamlined bar of providers, users may share an URL within a social network, directly with friends on the network, or via email.

The UI can be configured to share by authenticating with Janrain (where supported), by using the Provider’s sharing UI, or a mixture of both.

Authenticated Share (An activity shared to a wall, status, or other update on a social network using the Janrain UI)

This requires that the provider be configured with your client ID and secret in the dashboard. This method authenticates using Janrain, and uses the Provider’s APIs to complete the action.

Supported providers are:

Native Share (New for v3. An activity shared to a wall, status, or other update on a social network using the provider’s native UI)

This does not require a client ID or secret, or configuration by Janrain. ┬áThis method launches the Provider’s own sharing UI in a pop up window for the user to share with.

Supported providers are:

Direct Sharing (an activity shared directly to another user via existing social network messaging system)

Supported providers for direct sharing via Janrain’s Share method are:

Native Sharing allows for all the capabilities of the platform, so direct sharing is supported, if present.

Email

With Email sharing, the user is presented with a UI that will email a recipient through the designated service.

Supported providers for email sharing are:
