User’s Guide

You can implement the Social Sharing Widget for an application using the Dashboard. Once you finish configuring the widget in the Dashboard, code is generated to add it to the remote website. Once the code is in place, the client page will communicate with your application to present sharing options to users.

The Dashboard provides powerful design tools to customize the appearance of the widget. However, you can also configure the widget by coding it, using the widget JavaScript API. See Coding the Widget Appearance for more information.

Implementing the Social Sharing Widget consists of these steps:

  • Configure the Widget — This step includes selecting Identity Providers and specifying the widget’s appearance.
  • Get the Code — Code is generated to be placed into the website hosting the Social Sharing Widget.

Sign in to your application. If you haven’t created an application yet, or are unsure how to use the application, please see Creating Applications.

Once you arrive at your application’s Dashboard, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Social Sharing for Websites from the Quick Links menu. You will be greeted with the Configure Widget page (see Figure 1).
  2. Make sure the latest Social Share Widget is selected from the drop down menu. If the Legacy Share Widget is displayed, choose Share Widget from the drop down menu.
Note: It is recommended that all new implementations use the latest Sharing Widget. Documentation for the Legacy Sharing Widget is still available.
  3. Configure the widget as described on the Configure Widget page.
